It’s 2016, so it’s more than likely by now that you are a regular user of the online social media giant – Facebook.
Why so likely?
Because almost three-quarters of all online adults across the world are now Facebook users, visiting the technology titan at least once every month. Yes, that’s right. If you’re a Facebook user; and let’s face it you probably are – according to recent statistics, you’ll be using it regularly.
So regularly that it’s likely you’ll be spending at least 20 minutes daily on the social media site connecting or sharing with (an average of) 250 friends.
And the hugely popular social media giant continues to expand year on year, with no immediate signs of a slowdown in user demand or growth.
To give you a better understanding of Facebook’s continued popularity and its remarkable trajectory from 2004 dorm room dream to a US$250 billion publicly traded company here’s a 2016 overview.
Facebook At A Glance
Of Facebooks’ 1.5 billion registered users, there are more than 1 billion daily active users. Targeting these users are more than 2.5 million active Facebook advertisers – perhaps you are one of them?
Although college students were the original members of the platform, millennials ( 15-34 years old ) are now the largest Facebook user group. Ninety-one percent of all millennials are now active users.
The social network is represented across a wide variety of age demographics from 65yrs+ down to 12-17year-old users (of which 28% “use it all the time”). Pew Research has discovered that now 83 % of parents are Facebook friends with their teens, making it a truly cross-generational channel.
In Asia, Facebook continues to grow in popularity with more than 300 million daily users, although Canada has consistently topped the most active users by country population – nearly 75% of Canadian users check their accounts daily.
Facebook is also available in a wide variety of languages ( 70 to be specific ), with more than 75% of users now based in countries outside of the USA.
But no matter the country you’re based in, when using Facebook, it’s quite likely you are one of the 1.4 billion users who are accessing it via smartphone. Faster broadband & capability of phones has made the move from desktop to app an easy choice for many.
If you’re not using Facebook, then it’s likely you are using another of the social behemoths’ product portfolio that includes Instagram (400 million users), WhatsApp (900 million users) and Messenger (800 million users).
But that’s just a start. Facebook wants to “enable the impossible”, bringing the future to you right now with the social network centre stage both on & offline.
Immersive video technology to enable this dream is fast becoming a reality.
Following their recent purchase of VR pioneer Oculus Rift, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has announced they’ll be launching a powerful consumer hardware product in the first quarter of 2016.
With an immersive, augmented reality, coming very soon, Zuckerberg is hoping your future could be experienced anywhere, experiencing anything and everything (virtually) with your 250 Facebook friends… or perhaps any of Facebooks 1.5 billion other users.
