New WordPress Plug-in ‘Site Kit’ Integrates Google Tools
Sam Mannell
Late last week Google announced its new free, open-source plug-in for WordPress, Site Kit. The plug-in helps webmasters manage their site by rolling a number of Google-powered insights into one channel. This helps website owners collate audience and revenue metrics into a single place.
Which Google tools are available?
Google has stated that the first version of the plugin will only include data from four Google services. The implication is that more will be added as the Plug-In is developed, as it is still currently in a Beta phase.
The four tools available through the Plug-In currently are:
Search Console
Analytics
AdSense
PageSpeed Insights
How does it work?
Each of the Google tools above can be accessed via the WordPress admin panel, as outlined by the quote below:
“With Site Kit installed, WordPress users can access unified insights and Google product capabilities directly from the WordPress admin panel. Where it is helpful, Site Kit will also provide deep links into Google products for advanced reports and product configuration capabilities.”
It’s noteworthy that Site Kit doesn’t provide any data that isn’t already available via Google’s free tools, but it does make them much more accessible. A webmaster can access the admin panel anywhere on their site, and be able to immediately find Google’s data for that particular page.
The plug-in also has a built-in functionality for alerting webmasters once they have reached certain milestones. It’s also expected that Site Kit will be able to display collated statistics across multiple posts.
